A sneak preview into Dubai's new skyscraper 'Tower', unveiled to be a 'notch' ta

Emaar Properties have announced plans to develop a $1 billion tower in Dubai, which will exceed the height of the 828m Burj Khalifa.

With construction starting this summer, the four-year plans are in place to complete the structure in time for the World Expo 2020, which is being hosted by Dubai.

The Tower will be the focal point of a 6km square mega-retail and harbour development; Dubai Creek Harbour, which will offer a 4.5km Creek boardwalk, nine lifestyle districts, a yacht club, marina and a number of hotels.

Design

The tower will primarily be an observation tower with an observation deck close towards its needle tip point. The tower’s structure will comprise of its concrete core and external cladding in glass and steel.

Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava is the brains behind the design and the streamlined, slender structure is designed like a minaret, symbolizing Islamic culture. The delicate veins of the lily flower inspire the tension cable design element and the focal lighting at the top of the structure will emphasize the ‘flower bud’ concept further.

Features

  • Glass balconies, which extend outward, will rotate outside the wall of the tower to offer more impressive views.

  • The Tower will also have a world-class luxury hotel along with 18-20 commercial floor space for shops, restaurants and other tourist facilities.

  • The tower’s pinnacle, shaped like a lily bud will include 10 VIP observation decks and a observation room, referred to as the ‘Pinnacle Room’; designed to recreate the hanging gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

  • Green and sustainability features include green corridors and environmentally friendly tram service to serve as a benchmark for the industry
